Employment law update April 2014

Each spring we update our policies and documents for latest legislative change. The Government has launched a number of employment law changes for the 6 of April 2014 that will potentially affect employers.  

Early Conciliation: Before lodging a claim to the Tribunal all claimants will now need to notify ACAS first, where conciliation will be offered before the claimant can proceed to lodge a tribunal claim.

Tribunal Financial Penalties: The Employment Tribunal will now have the power to order an employer who has lost a case to pay a financial penalty of up to £5000 to the Secretary of State.

Statutory Pay Increase: The rate of statutory maternity, paternity and adoption rate increased to £138.18.

Statutory Redundancy Pay: The weekly statutory redundancy pay rate increased to £464.

Income Tax: personal allowance increased to £10,000
