Paternity leave is available where an employee is a father-to-be or will be responsible, with the mother, for bringing up the child. Employees have the right to paid Paternity Leave providing they meet certain conditions.
Paternity leave is available if the employee:
  • Has or expects to have responsibility for the up bringing
  • Is the father of the child or the mothers partner
  • Has worked continuously for their employer for 26 weeks
  • Has give the correct notice
Paternity leave can’t be started until the birth and must be taken within 56 days of the actual date of birth.  There I no legal right to paid time off for antenatal appointments.
